The Debate Over Royalties - “Where Money Meets Culture”
September 1, 2018 by admin / Yuwise News & Updates
Most appropriately defined as “a sum of money paid to a patentee for the use of a patent or to an author or composer for each copy of a book sold or for each public performance of a work.” Some definitions may include where there are more than 40 persons listening! That would include radio, television, djs, restaurants, night clubs, churches, public events, etc... In other words, if you are using someone's music to make money (at your event) then it is only fair to pay the creators of the music. Without the music you will not make money or you may quickly lose customers.

- We are in support of everyone getting paid. Two of the best examples are Bob Marley and Michael Jackson, who in their passing seem to have gained more money for their music than when they were alive! They continue to make millions of dollars
- How do they continue to make money while being dead?
- Were Bob and Michael simply lucky to be making music at that time? But today it would have been totally different!
- The industry has changed
- Many say that the music and lyrics are not the same. It has taken a turn for the worse!
- Many of these artists and musicians want to get paid royalties
- To get paid, many of these artist have to sign up with publishing companies like BMI, and ASCAP
- Some of these artist and musicians get paid but many do not
- Many of these artist music are not being played on the radio
- Publishing companies have the right to file lawsuits to get money for their clients; artists and musicians
- Who owns these companies?
- How do these companies continue to exist and pay their employees and lawyers?
- If we do nothing, how can we get the quality of music that we demand from artist?
- We support royalties
- We believe that everyone should get paid
- The current formula, of artist and musicians signing to these companies and striking a balance is up for debate!
- The artist, or individual who retain ownership to the song should contact us by email giving us permission to play and promote his/her music. We do not want a lawsuit!
- Our interest is to create the right formula; so that everyone can get paid satisfactorily to enable the artists and musicians to continue the creative process! Which will ultimately benefit themselves, their families, and the community
